We’re back in Southeast Asia 🇻🇳 After some time away, it feels incredibly good to be travelling again and even better to be picking up the camera and getting back into photography vlogs on YouTube. I’ve really missed shooting, wandering, observing, and telling visual stories, and this trip feels like the perfect reset. The latest vlog is shot in Hanoi, a city that’s endlessly inspiring for street photography. From the early-morning rhythm of locals opening shops, to scooters flowing through narrow streets, to quiet moments tucked away in alleyways, Hanoi rewards you if you slow down and look closely. Keep an eye out for layers, light cutting through buildings, street food scenes, reflections, and the small human moments that happen between the chaos. I’m shooting all images on the Fujifilm X100VI, keeping things simple with one camera and one lens, focusing on mood, moments, and movement rather than gear. This vlog is about reconnecting with photography, enjoying the process again, and sharing the journey as it unfolds. Thaipusam is a Tamil Hindu festival celebrated on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai, during which the star Pusam is ascending. It honours the deity Lord Murugan (son of Shiva and Parvati), particularly his divine weapon, the “vel” (sacred spear), which he used to vanquish evil forces. In Malaysia, Thaipusam is among the largest and most spectacular observances of this festival, especially at Batu Caves, drawing hundreds of thousands — sometimes over a million — of devotees and visitors. Come along for a relaxing photo walk in Busan, as we hop on the colorful Haeundae Beach Train and explore Korea’s most famous beachside views. From the scenic coastline and lush forest paths to the charming seaside railway, this journey captures the best of Haeundae’s coastal beauty. Whether you’re into travel photography, slow travel vibes, or hidden gems in Busan, this wander has something for you. The Haeundae Beach Train in Busan is actually a modern reinvention of an older coastal railway line with a long local history. Here’s the story: The tracks along Haeundae’s coast originally belonged to the Donghae Nambu Line, built during the Japanese colonial era (early 20th century). For decades, this railway ran right along the shoreline between Mipo, Cheongsapo, and Songjeong, offering some of the most scenic ocean views in Korea. Over time, with urban development and safety concerns, parts of the coastal railway were moved inland. By 2013, regular train services along this seaside section were discontinued, leaving the tracks unused. Instead of removing the tracks, Busan city decided to repurpose them into a tourist attraction. In October 2020, the Haeundae Blueline Park officially opened, introducing: The Beach Train: a slow-moving coastal train that runs about 4.8 km between Mipo → Cheongsapo → Songjeong. The Sky Capsule: small, colorful two-person cabins running on elevated tracks with panoramic ocean views. The train is designed for sightseeing, moving at a leisurely pace (~15 km/h) so passengers can soak in the views. Carriages are decorated in bright, cheerful colors, often compared to toy trains. Along the route, you’ll see Haeundae Beach, rocky coastlines, lighthouses, fishing villages, and forest paths. It’s now one of Busan’s most popular attractions, especially for families, couples, and photographers. It preserves a piece of Busan’s railway heritage, while adapting it into something new. It connects visitors to both history and nature, linking Haeundae’s bustling beach to quieter seaside villages. It has quickly become an Instagram-famous spot, with the Sky Capsules often compared to Europe’s coastal trams or even Japan’s seaside trains.

Embark on a serene journey through Nara Deer Park, where centuries-old tradition meets playful wildlife. Spanning approximately 500–660 hectares at the foot of Mount Wakakusa, Nara Park is one of Japan’s oldest urban parks, established in 1880. It’s home to prominent sites like Tōdai-ji, Kōfuku-ji, and Kasuga Taisha. Over 1,200 sika deer, designated as natural monuments, wander freely through the park. These deer were once considered divine messengers from Kasuga Taisha. The deer are famous for their “bowing” behavior—an act many interpret as politeness but which may precede a head-butting gesture. Caution is advised, especially during mating season when bucks can become aggressive. Visitors can purchase shika senbei (deer crackers) to feed them. While charming, over-reliance on these crackers has raised nutritional concerns for the deer. The X100V’s fixed 23 mm f/2 lens (approx. 35 mm equivalent) allows you to stay agile—great for weaving through quiet trails or capturing intimate deer interactions without drawing attention. Focus speeds, high-resolution EVF, and tactile dials help you lock focus quickly—ideal for fleeting moments like a deer’s bow or glance. Film simulation modes like Velvia or Classic Chrome create mood-rich visuals, from amber autumn tones to soft dawn light. Nara Deer Park is a place where myth, culture, and wildlife converge. Armed with your Fujifilm X100V, you’re not just shooting pictures—you’re telling a story: ancient legends, wild beauty, and quiet moments of connection. Your viewers will feel like they’re right there, strolling under stone lanterns, exchanging quiet bows with a bowing deer, and experiencing Japan’s serene poetry firsthand.

From street food vendors to bustling alleys, this place is full of life, colour, and character — perfect for street photography. I brought along my Fujifilm X100V, which I love for this kind of shooting. Its compact size and classic rangefinder look make it super discreet, letting me blend into the scene and capture more candid moments. The fixed 23mm f/2 lens is just right for the tight market spaces, and the film simulations give the photos a timeless vibe straight out of camera. Opened in 1905, Gwangjang Market is the first permanent market in Korea. It was established during the late Joseon Dynasty as a response to growing commercial needs and as a way for Korean merchants to protect their businesses from increasing Japanese control during the occupation era. Located in central Seoul, near Jongno, the market became a key center for commerce and everyday life — offering textiles, hanbok (traditional Korean clothing), household goods, and later, food. In the mid-20th century, especially after the Korean War, Gwangjang grew into a bustling hub for locals. Over time, its food alley gained international fame, particularly for its authentic Korean street food — like bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes), mayak gimbap (addictive mini seaweed rice rolls), tteokbokki, and soondae (Korean blood sausage). In recent years, Gwangjang Market has become a top tourist spot, thanks in part to appearances in shows like Netflix's Street Food: Asia. Despite modernization, the market has held onto its old-world charm, with narrow alleys, traditional signage, and family-run stalls that have operated for decades.
